Michelle LaVoy is the granddaughter of European immigrants who came to America in search of the American Dream. Living through World War I and making the journey to America, they knew about sacrifice. For her parents it was always about doing what they had to do to provide for their family: working long hours every day but always finding time for family dinner.
Hard work, sacrifice, and family became the basis for her life of service to her community and others. A desire to be a part of something bigger than herself led her to the nonprofit sector where she served as Operations Coordinator for the American Cancer Society, Area Director for the American Heart Association, and later working with the Mercy Foundation which is affiliated with the Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo to secure donors so they could provide healthcare to those in need.
As Monroe City Clerk-Treasurer, she’s gotten up every day dedicated to ensure that our tax dollars are spent wisely, our elections are run efficiently, and our local government is transparent and accountable to the people it serves.
Now, Michelle is running for state representative because she wants to build a Michigan where her daughters, Grace and Carolyn, and all our kids have opportunities so they can stay here and succeed. In Lansing, Michelle will leverage her experience and commitment to service to ensure economic opportunity, educational opportunity, financial security, strong communities, and health and wellness for all.
