“My grandparents came to America from Europe in search of the American Dream. They worked day in and day out to provide a better life for their kids. In the community my grandparents came to, their hard work allowed them to make a decent living to provide for their family and retire with dignity.
These days it feels like that basic American promise— that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can get ahead— has slipped away. Factories have closed and jobs have left town. For those with jobs, prices have gone up but wages have gone down. Politicians in Lansing and Washington like to tell us that the economy is booming, but too often hardworking people in Monroe and Wayne Counties aren’t feeling it.
As State Representative, I’ll work to ensure that the opportunity my grandparents found in America isn’t just a thing of the past.” — Michelle
